Artistic License

My friend wanted an art lesson, so we set up some images in the sun on her kitchen table. Her young son also wanted to draw, and while he did that, I got a photo or two of him with his back-lit hair. When I got home I worked on this drawing for a little while and sent it to his mother, who liked it.

But when I compared the drawing to the actual photo by directly overlaying the images in ProCreate, I realized I had gotten a few things wrong, and started to correct them. Then I realized that I liked my drawing better than the photo, and gave myself permission to not make it “correct”. That’s why they call it “Artistic License”, right? I’ve been feeling more confidence from practicing art. It’s a good feeling.
